I finally found a place to purchase the aluminum flat stock I need to reinforce the daggerboard hole. I need to cut the skin (YEEGADS!!) and get some epoxy between it and the keel before I fasten the aluminum down. (I first need to shape, soften the edges and predrill the holes for the fasteners and for that I need a drill bit in town)
The skag needs to be fastened from the inside of the boat, predrilling holes first in the keel/skin, then matching those holes on the keel, which then gets a bead of epoxy along its surface rhat contacts the boat/skin as well as all holes, in keel and skag. A little piece of ash (left over from the tiller extension) will support the rear of the skag, reinforce it from the transom.
I’m not sure I have proper curing temps for the epoxy, so looking at accomplishing as many details as possible before breaching the skin. Next week looks wet, very wet, and working on the boat during the week is out of the question with how busy we are delivering. Essentially, I missed my window…
