They are little chunky (bigger than prescribed) but I had a nice piece of 5/4 waiting for a use. (It will also comprise the yard, the top section of sail support, but that need epoxy curing temps. Might take the little stuff into the basement, the boom needs epoxying too).
I need to trim off the excess fabric, melt the edges, and fold it over. The rub rails get tapered in heigth to accent the (sheer) lines, and I suppose it shaves off a little weight too, but that’s not the purpose.
The rub rails then get fastened to the gunwales, securing the skin and hiding “the unsightly” line of staples, and will then serve the function of protecting the upper edge of the craft. It’s a 3D bend, both to the side curve and sheer (the top of the gunwales from stem to stern aren’t straight. I’ll show you once the rub rails are on!)
