The D Word…

After a remarkably pleasant weekend, a spring week is on the horizon. I gotta hand it to the National Weather Service for being very half-full. They’ve announced “good news” regarding drought.

A couple areas in Maine are no longer in “severe” drought mode. Yes, that is good news, but barely. I looked under the hood of the OG well and was alarmed to see it not entirely full. Oh there’s lots of beautiful clear water in it, but it’s NOT full, and likely won’t top off.

The above forecast may look gray and wet, but damp might be a more apt term. One weather prognosis concluded that 6-8 inches monthly would bring us out of drought. Entirely.

As the saying goes, “that ain’t happnin’…”

Yesterday wood frogs sporadically signaled the season, then after dark reached crescendo. Will they overlap with the peepers? The frog pond is not full, well beyond damp, but will be ice free this week. A tiny crescent along the shaded south shore remains, quick to disappear.

Almost 13.5 hours of daylight, onward towards summer!
