In the carpentry world “Putty and paint, make what a carpenter ain’t”. It means you can take some putty/caulking and paint to coverup inadequacies, mistakes.
Grout is similar, but it’s more “ties it all together”.

Natural lighting. It’s still messy, as grout is a messy sandy process. The grout gets worked into all the gaps and spaces, then smoothed and cleaned with a wet sponge. The latter is where the “artistry” comes in, finding the sweet spot between tiles, shaping areas. It’s fun, but messy.
I have to remind myself to stop fiddling with it. This won’t be able to move or shape once dry, it’s cementious, and not like my homemade mortar that is workable, removable, reworkable.
Once fully set, lots more passes with a clean sponge removes the dust and residue. It adds a uniformity, ties it all together (even “gluing” things together) and adds even more thermal mass!
