
The ring shank, in this case stainless steel. The long part of a nail is the shank, putting rings on it makes it stay embedded better. The nails keep the different pieces in place, “hold things together” and the stainless is more heat tolerant. I’m not pushing the tower at rocketstove temps, they’ll be just fine…
As much as I was loathe to compromise the towers, I cut the outside corners off. Then added material to make a 45 degree angle inside the towers at the top outside corners for the exhaust to tumble less.

I removed a specific amount of material between the towers for the gasses to transfer from one to the next, trimmed excess off the outside, and fashioned an angled bridge between the towers.

Filling the gaps between the towers connected them and ensured the flu gasses never touched brick, the outer structure.

The ideas coalesced while planning and building, the reality flowed with the process of the outer structure. Admittedly, I’m in awe of the whole thing!!!
The goal of the tower is to create draft, movement/flow, whilst getting the heat into the bench. The cfb is both smooth (allowing more efficient flu gas movement) and insulative, so it moves both the stove gasses AND heat into the water heater and bench.
It would have been impossible to create this 20 years ago when I started the rocketstove project with Deedles. Evolution takes time, iterations. Going to rock this iteration this winter and see how it goes.
I could see building another riderless core and attaching it to the tower!!! One iteration at a time, this is the culmination of many projects, study, experiments and experiences. It’s a work in a progress at a considerable plateau.
