Wasn’t quite enough so I had to get creative and stretch it a bit to fill the form. It got messy and sweaty, mixing, crushing old material, then filling spreading and leveling.
Very nice cleaning up the tools with running water though, ALL HAIL THE DRILLED WELL, huzzah Huzzah HUZZAH!
The clay/sand etc. topping will dry slower than the mortar (which is a chemical reaction) but that’s okay. They aren’t separate layers per se, but there’s more mortar below and filler above. I’ll be tiling it before the stove goes back on. Then the footings for the riser/sinker, then the riser tower itself. Well over a week of work, and fire season is fast approaching.
There will be an announcement when the first night dips below 50. (It hit 50 a couple weeks ago, a one off, but a close call! The next marker after that is below 40, frost follows just behind…)
