A “night out” in

The white rectangular piece of paper represents btwxd’s luggage space. There’s probably a term for what I’ve done. I don’t need a fancy 3D drawing, I’ve simply comparamentalized the ares, roughly to scale and in their respective locations.

BDR’s twelfth route is opening this spring in OR. Last night they streamed the documentary live, I got my map out and watched. Inspiring, but that’s a long way away.

I’m planning my own little excursion, it starts in PA. I’ve managed (without Wi-Fi of course) to get the two routes I’m exploring on the (motorcycle) GPS. (Technically they are called GPX tracks). I’m also massaging ideas of what and how to pack.

This lead to the discovery and implementation of two bottle holders attached to the front tank saddle bags. I’d been fiddling with top attachment, but they were obstructing handlebar clearance and getting in my way. I’m using a small bike on purpose, I don’t want to be on a two wheeled pickup or station wagon…

The idea being to keep weight forward and low. The more the weight on the rear, the less functional the front tire and shocks are while dumping the burden on the back. The lower the weight is, the more stable the ride, less top heavy. A tippy motorcycle is harder to keep upright (thank you Captain Obvious) and (why I bares mention) can make off-roading more of a chore than fun, lead to lots of drops, and hence, pickups.

This is all pretrip ponderance. Yesterday I was out partially loaded and it felt good. I wasn’t doing anything very technical, but everything stayed where it was supposed and the ride was stable, ahem, enjoyable.

I’m fiddling with the calendar too, and zeroing in as I watch the leaves bud out and do the black fly avoidance dance
