Scoring a win

(Skipping the details while I was out west,) along the history of my Marlin .22 the magazine was lost/displaced (I think it’s in the garage at Clyde road). A fewsomething years ago I ordered a couple replacements from a knockoff company, a replacement attempt.

They didn’t fit, and I shrugged it off. I tucked them into an ammo bin, let go…. It wasn’t a major investment, but I was disappointed. Feeding a rifle one bullet at a time is arduous, silly. Fortunately, but not for squirrels and other pests that fail to respect my boundaries, I’m a good shot and it only takes one…

Today, whilst sorting and organizing, I came across the magazines and figured I’d attempt to wrap my head around why they didn’t fit before I discarded them. Upon closer examination, they appeared to be blocked from entering the magazine receiver, a couple small fasteners/rivets on the magazine were protruding a very little bit. Engineering tolerance is often minute. I removed the piece hindering their insertion and “CLICK” it actually connected to the rifle!

I gently modified the opening to accommodate the offending protrusions. WIN! You’ll note the little notches in the opening on the metal on the bottom of the stock. Methinks Deedles will have a target practice session with the trusty old Marlin from my highschool days come April break!

I was reflecting on why I didn’t throw them away as soon as I thought they didn’t fit. Timing is a strange thing. Of course I didn’t want to throw them away no matter how little I spent on them. Then I reflected on why I was able to make it work today, why that wasn’t part of the process when I received them. The puzzles of life, Universe, my curious experience…
