Before the first morning fire I examined under the cooktop, adjusted the flu gas flow above the core, bedded the plenum with vermiculite, bumped up the middle support height.
It all helped but I was still getting some smoke and puff-back.
So I cut the oven door plug. The flat piece laying against the opening was letting air in at the worst possible juncture. The flu gasses need to flow smoothly with minimal change in cubic area. It’s fire science, like many mediums, has parameters, of which I’m sophomoric. Like a pipette, an increase in cubic area slows flow. The pipette does this on purpose so you don’t get stuff in your mouth. A flu dislikes interruption, expansion, contraction. Like too many humans, it doesn’t thrive on change…
(Just FaceTimed with Deedles so that blew my momentum…)
So yah, the progress is real. I enlarged the plenum out of the oven leading to the water heater/bench and will tighten up the oven door. A firebox door is on the agenda as well.
FIRE!!!!!!
