A solution to a long time dilemma presented itself.
When the fire is out, not burning, there’s a fair bit of air movement through the stove, bench. I have a variety of covers but nothing tight, nothing that stops the flow, keeps the heat.

The ceramic fiberboard that comprises the new core is amazing stuff. It’s NOT strong but boy does it insulate!
I plugged the hole, laid a couple bigger pieces over the middle top, ran two honkin’ screws up through a flap of copper into an old scrap of meranti, BAM.
Makes a huge difference!
I’m only down to a morning and evening (often cooking) fire, but heat waste is NO BUENO!!!
