Does the bug move farther on warmer days? Does it turn toward the sun, follow the heat, unless it’s too hot? (Was this critter living on the south side at all?) Did texture in the no longer present bark influence the chomping travels?
Critters chomp, that’s for sure. My fruit trees are being taken out by this…
As the image quality increased as I played with focus and angles, the larva quietly scootched into the trunk some. Neither far nor fast, but what this photo lacks in focus it balances with grub presence.
I need to do some research. A critter is boring into the tree trunks way down at the ground. It leaves behind it’s genetic offspring and it’s killing the trees…. Time for some combative measures
