I don’t believe I’ve cranked up the microboiler before winter actually started.
Just as I was leaving the house this morning I realized that the waterline had some blockage, freezing. I left for work anyways, but forgot my phone as my head began to swim (read:PANIC)
I was working on emptying the van I got two pickups, one all the way out in Lubec (I move medical samples for a community health center, it’s a three hour drive to make sure they get into the outbound loop so they make the plane out of Portland) so shifted my focus.
The timing was about right to switch my outbound with inbound so returned to Wesley (where I usually get my day’s freight) for transfer a little early as I need my phone in the van for a number of reasons. I was able to get the water moving with some heat, and added a perfunctory layer of extra insulation outside. Disaster averted, but it’s single digits again tonight, albeit warmer than subzero.
The fire has been honking but I’m giving the floor a boost. I even turned on my bed warmer before I left the house the second time at noon! Do I even want to check the temperature up there? I know my bed isn’t cold…. Didn’t hit 20 today, but it’s going to hit hit 40 tomorrow night and rain.
Then, absolutely, freeze right back up, hardcore. Delivery nightmare….
Anyhoot, part of the reason I’m “pointing out” the microboiler, beyond the legend in the making combat against the cold, it’s going to skew my electrical use pattern. I’m very curious how much electricity the well pump and point of use water heater use. The latter doesn’t even get daily use, but I was hoping to see what difference would be revealed on my next powerbill. The microboiler is THE appliance in the house, the biggest draw. (I’ll be around more/delivering less after Christmas so will be able to burn more wood to heat the floor/bench/space.)
