Modern balancing act

The euonymus have easy see and plentiful berries, seeing bigger birds in the bush is new. They navigate the branches well but the scale is very different from the typical little birds! They eat (and breathe) plain and simple what they find.

We, on the otherhand, not so much. While reading a ‘how to avoid cancer in later life” article, I came across something I’ve always felt, but rarely vocalize.

While out delivering, it isn’t uncommon to approach a home and smell the stuff inside. Boggles my mind how potent it must be inside, if I can smell it outside.

So the quacks keep saying:

Don’t use or minimize plastic use.

Don’t heat plastic (in the microwave or dishwasher or even the washing machine, the latter two are polluting water!)

Avoid the ‘cides (pesticide, herbicide, fungicide etc)

Don’t eat big fish (they are higher in the food chain, upper trophic levels, toxins accumulate)

Avoid dry cleaning

Filter your water

And now “home fragrance” is added to the list…

Basically, if it isn’t natural, there is a health price. That price varies, but are you willing to gamble?

It’s a modern balancing act, a conundrum, and a collective karma. We have tipped the natural scale, did we really think there wouldn’t be a consequence?
