From the

Waste Not Want Not Dept

I’m dipping scraps from my firewood delivery into wax for kindling purposes. It’s the sort of project many wouldn’t consider, let alone do.

Lots of the bark came off the dry cord, some came of the green cord. Said bark goes into the informal compost (behind the wood pile was a depression I’ve been filling with organic matter for years. It’s not a depression anymore!) while I pick out the hardwood scraps. Most people toss the lot. I see BTUs, I see wood.

It’s an exercise the embraces my love of wood, trees. There’s plenty to compost, but starting a hot fire and not wasting the lil bits turns my crank
