As snow encroaches, I didn’t do much “before” action. I don’t even have a picture of the steel piece as it rode an around in the car with me for a few days…

It’s 5/16s thick, and cut perfectly to my request. I did a quick dry fit, the true 90* corners looked odd and could make for problems during installation etc. I used my new grinder to round off the corners and smooth the edges.
Will it melt? Next weekend, after the seal has a chance to cure (I happened to have enough hitemp silicone sealant lying around!) Deedles and I will put the heat to it and see!!!
It sure FEELS more stable and rugged than the glass.
As I was doing some cooking in the apartment this week, I was reminded of what a mess traditional stoves get, what a nuisance they are to clean. On a big hot top like this stuff just burns off…
