At me, REALLY mad…
Wrong place wrong time, but I did what I needed to to keep the truck on the road. It had been snowing a couplefew hours, the moist snow had been driven on and yet to be plowed. I pulled out of a road, turned onto a steep blind pitch with almost no momentum. Tires lost traction, which means when traction control is on, the pedal to floor does NOTHING (it’s a bizarre and disgusting feeling.). I tapped the brakes, as that sometimes helps sort out the computer, “find” me something to grab. Nope, instead I started sliding backwards and there’s a car at the bottom of the hill coming up.
I punch “traction control off” and my hazards and matt it, only to spend prolly three minutes spinning and slowly pulling up, albeit not straight. A pictured would have shown zigzag lines of wet asphalt back and forth in my lane. The person behind me left plenty of room, paying attention to what was up.
Lights went on, warning chimes binged, so much fun. I realized as I created the hill and got traction back that things weren’t right. The speedo wasn’t moving, text warnings on the dash and a coffee cup, check engine light and a red steering wheel, why wasn’t I I front of a slot machine?!?! (the coffee cup was a “tired driver warning” as the vehicle was jostling from side to side in the lane grooves on the slippery hill)
The power steering went out and nearby I pulled over at a store a phoned base. I gingerly drove home after nothing happened when I tried to reboot the vehicle.
Once back (an hour later) I switched vehicles and grabbed the medication to finish the necessities.
I’m in a rear wheeler drive diesel van today, pros and cons and eager to wrap the week up. Uneventful really, the rental gets sorted out elsewhere. I did what I needed to, and though it complied, it ain’t happy…
