I read a variety of things, from a variety of sources. One business I trust for food mentioned microplastics in salt. Great, well I needed to do some digging

National Geographic has been exploring, photographing and writing about Earth, communities, cultures, animals, all sorts of stuff for decades. They’ve been criticized for leaving much out of the writings (regarding politics, upheaval, US sponsored development/political and military presence etc) but it’s easy to see why they have focused on what they have. They recently were involved in a world wide table salt study.

Kinda vanilla here, sticking to the science, what we KNOW, keeping the focus laser like. No projections, solutions, is this honest reporting? At the bottom of the article the truth spread out

“Is it harmful?” and they sorta buzz about what we don’t know, data this and that. Dunno, call me crazy, but having microplastics in my brain isn’t something I aspire to, want. It can’t be GOOD…. Oh wait, there’s a link to heart disease, so is it or is it not harmful? I think it’s obvious, but anyone is free to make up their own mind.

Back to the original reading, the topic went straight to a small business that had its salt tested immediately after hearing about this study. Yah I bought a bunch!! The cellar is way bigger than I thought, hoped, but will suffice. It’s porcelain with a bamboo top and a silicone seal.
Avoiding microplastics isn’t easy, and only going to get harder… Really we didn’t know the extent to which it had infiltrated our environment (and thus bodies) until recently. Not a fun topic, but I find it relative, and of course hopeful in that there are clean products! Will there be a new package labeling system verifying that a product is microplastic free? Betcha…
