The timing was impeccable, as I’ve been lurking but not hovering around my phone.
Here’s the thing, FedEx now uses something called paradox.ai for processing its applications, and “Olivia” reaches out, responds etc, it’s avatar is a Black woman smiling, wavy hair, makes you think it’s a person…it was responding to the other application as I’m in their system, processing…
I immediately started poking around but couldn’t find anything on my end “in the system” as I’m not really in it yet. I pondered what could have gone wrong, the language was a little off (note the above notice isn’t considering my application) but quickly applied for another position to hedge my bets, further my interest.
I dug a little deeper, and figured making some phone calls wouldn’t hurt. My initial offer with contingencies (likely AI generated) has me starting this Friday, I needed something concrete.
I called the hiring manager in Bangor as calling the recruiter met with ZERO success for a week. He picked up, we talked, he said to not sweat it, it usually takes a couple weeks to sort things out, but I should call the recruiter, I checked my number against his, then did so.
Left a message, hurrumph, in the message loop again?! I had a package up to the stoah, so went for a walk after sticking my phone in my back pocket. HR woman rings me up, soothes me and calms me down, reiterating what Bangor said, “this takes time, ignore Olivia!” I mentioned I had already applied for another position, she chuckled, told me I wasn’t going anywhere, “they love you up there!” (She’s located in Boston.)
Can I get an AMEN?!?! I’m nibbling on organic chocolate. I didn’t know Dr. Bronners made chocolate bars, I ordered a bunch (on sale) to get free shipping. It’s HARD to find deals on organic chocolate.
What a roller coaster, another week or two of wircus as things fall into place. AI can stick it!!! I’ve been avoiding the topic because I avoid it as much as possible. Got me right wound up today though, didn’t it?!?! Heavens to Betsy….
