I spent the entire tube of height temp RTV caulk. After the first application I was able to pivot the top up and peak at what needed additional shmootz, directed it there, lowered the to and gently nestled it into place.
It feels very solid, and even level!!! I did not have enough to seal the edges around the base, but got both sides secured and sealed. I really wanted to buy two tubes the other day (with the final bits of flu that’ll line the chimbley) and now glad I didn’t as I’d be filling cracks willy-nilly and gluing things together with abandon…. This first tube can now cure, I’ll come in and finesse the final seal tomorrow
