I hadda WTF moment

But think I my have figured it out…

I ordered steel tubing online as I couldn’t find it in Bangor (and wasn’t driving to West Bath where I got it last time). I was checking the tracking, and noticed that my receipt, noted in red, indicated that I ordered 36, thirty six!?

I was thinking about it after the fact, about the complexities of shopping online, how a device or payment option could have blundered the number of pieces (AKA “Quantity”) I want, need, ordered.

I wrote off the amount, as it wasn’t crippling financially, seeing that each “unit” was only a few cents, not visible in the receipt but my online statement. Then it occured to me that it could the inches I’m being billed for, remembered it was 30 something units, pieces, quantity, WHATEVER! OH PHEW, I ordered tWo 16” pieces, so thirty two, yah, that makes sense.

Then in the process of making his post I saw 36. Another WTF moment, and the math seeped in. A foot six (which appeared as 1 and 6, which looks a lot like to my math hobbled mind) is NOT 16 inches, it’s 18. Math, my true love, my forte, my nemesis…

I can make them shorter, not longer, so yah, two pieces @18” is in fact “36” units. Lordy…

I’ll make some final measurements (I did want it a leetle longer than 16” but wasn’t going to fuss. Now I can! I’ll make the marks and toss it in a box or something, and the cuts, drill and weld will happen at the owner’s leisure. He waved his hand at the amount I was charged last time, but I don think he’d mind a gift card to Mason’s!
