The (current) solution

I fed the 1” potable PEX tubing down through the existing water line, 30 something feet.

The new foot valve slides into the pipe/tubing after removing the covering (so as to not collect gunk from the existing line. It is 50 years old!) and then was submerged back down at the bottom. I’ll have to remove the frog living in the well. A new cover is next, like in the coming week!

I used what I could from the existing system, cleaned things up.

I needed to transition from PEX to copper, a several inch bottle neck before it goes briefly to the 1 1/2” original pipe, the transition to the pump. One solder connection only. Conveniently, an existing copper union simplified connection, and will be handy in the event of repairs, upgrades. I cleaned up the pump and refastened it to the micro counter after little improvements.

An additional check valve helps the foot valve do its job of not letting water run back down the line.

It pumps like a dream now, steady and even flow! Total win, zero problems on instal, zero leakage at onset. I did have to reset the trap from the sink, likely bonked it out of alignment during instal. Feeling victorious and inspired, pleased for regular water, smooth pumping, less waste getting the fresh water to the pump, no leaks, alla that!

Well cover this week, some chill time with Deedles after the weekend/work week, and the rocketstove project tops the project list. MINCX clutch pack shipping, could have that on the road in the interim, or I show Deedles what up with alla that, but it’s occupying considerable real estate in the cabin…
