I’m getting up early

To buzz down to Skillins in Falmouth to interview for a full time year round driving position. Class B, which means straight body, no trailer. Or it’s a short trailer with lower weights. I’ll learn more tomorrow.

The position drives between the three locations, the mothership on the Foreside, Cumberland and Brunswick. Big Red lives in Cumberland, my routes would be out of that location. Guess I oughta put that in context…

The position pays $5+ more an hour, nice hours 7:30-3:30 M-F. Making the commute from the Harpbin doesn’t feel right though, I’ve been exploring other housing situations and nothing’s panning out. If the last stop was Brunswick, that would work. I’ll put things context too since it’s a theme…

It’s a balancing act. Loosing summers off but regaining weekends off. …So here’s the deal with Thorne salad operations: I took three mental health days after an unpleasant interaction with a coworker and far too many conversations about it, no real solutions.

In the span of my absence, with minor communication from me (but not a blackout) a revised schedule was created, enabling me to “meet the needs of the salad room” (and have minimal contact with the coworker that is unpleasant. See, you can’t just up and fire someone because they are an asshole, even if they’ve been an asshole for 30 years!)

I’ll make a little more money working three evenings a week M Tu & F 12:30-8:30p, and then also make a little more working Sa&Su 9-5p. I feel heard, supported, it’s a compromise, I’m willing to try it, but I put my feelers out.

I received a pleasantly surprising amount of support from a variety of coworkers, kitchens talk, people share, and the asshole is well known, as an asshole, it’s just what it is. I ain’t havin’ it, my new schedule feels like an asshole vaccine. It won’t make me fully immune, but these changes are welcome, mostly. I LOVED 10-6 M-F…

I’m going to cut to the chase tomorrow. The idea of driving plants around in that triangle is appealing. I’ve watched Skillin’s at work, I used to deliver fuel to them, my sense is they are good people, local reputable business. Toss my hat in the ring, I’ve nothing to loose!
