March of the bruise

Or whatever those dead blood cells under my nail are called. I’ve had breakfast (around here it’s called “veggie surprise”, something I’ve been able to instill as well as provide) and a shower, savoring the coastal morning breeze.

The rain pattern broke, replaced by heaps upon heaps of sun and humidity. Business has ramped up accordingly, but it’s a mixed bag. We had an intense cell hammer us for about 20 minutes a couple evenings ago, replete with serious thunders and lightning, then a few minutes of fresh dry air behind it.

If it’s REALLY hot we don’t have much of a lunch rush, families are beaching it, we serve a smattering of elders and a cross section of tourists and some locals. As the day wanes, that beach crowd swamps us, making the final push of the work day Herculean!

Today may be the opposite, as showers are predicted around dinner time. The workdays march along, marked by the movement of the dark purple ‘neath my nail. Another couple weeks and we enter the second phase of summer as employees begins to peel off with their fall and winter plans. It doesn’t slow down on the dock though, so those working step it up to compensate, then the third phase kicks in come September.

I have work lined up for fall/winter/spring, housing not so much. Although it’s considered the MidCoast area, it’s crowded like southern Maine, space is a premium…
