When installed the solar panel atop the grome, I shared my displeasure with drilling holes in the triangular glazing panels. It’s been a boon since, the next example right here.
Only recently has it been hot enough to need venting on the top. (One can’t say “roof” in regards to a geodesic dome as the vast majority of it is!!). Clambering up and down, lodging logs under the vents (and reversing the process in the evening), effective yes, overly cumbersome, absolutely!
Months ago I successfully installed a gigavent in the shome, two actually. Adjusting the second flummoxed me, now I get it after further research and getting it right.
This one took hours, after I dropped a fastener in the lovely luscious understory. As much as I love all that vegetation down there, it’s excellent at concealing a bolt. Yah, and stainless steel so using a magnet wasn’t an option…
I rummaged around in the cabin, did some organizing as my frustration got the best of me, ranting about the mess I’m working on organizing, projects I’m neglecting finishing etc.
Eventually I found excellent fasteners after making some sense of things, repurposed from a Crowley fuel truck. Once I had em in my hand, dialed in the tools to tighten them, and figured out which way the vent needed to face, it literally took a couple minutes to set up. Man….
Time for some calories, adjust the second gigavent for heavy lifting (which means a smaller opening, good old physics trade off!) and slip it into place. When I’m gone next week I won’t be worrying about the grome over heating.
I have solar exhaust fans to instal, stay tuned!
